A car fire on the Princes Motorway, south of Sydney, has caused mayhem on Monday afternoon for families returning from their Easter getaways.
Witnesses have described a pale green Peugeot completely engulfed in flames on the side of the major motorway.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, with flames reportedly reaching up to three-metres high.
The inferno disrupted northbound traffic travelling towards Sydney, about 2.5km north of Picton Road.
Initially all northbound lanes were stopped as onlookers waited for fire trucks to arrive.
Emergency crews have since arrived to control the blaze alongside a tow truck.
At about 1.40pm one of two lanes remained closed, prompting kilometres of traffic waiting to pass the scene of the fire.
Motorists have been advised to expect significant delays and are urged to exercise caution as they pass the vehicle.
