Lara Gilchrist, 31, has told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell she suffered a broken nose and her eye swelled so much she couldn’t open it for days after the attack in Cranbourne last Thursday.
She was walking near the intersection of High Street and William Street on her way to Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre about 8am when she was allegedly assaulted by a man walking in the opposite direction.

“Instead of walking past me, he came at me, punched me in the face and just kept walking,” she said.
Gilchrist said the attack had left her “terrified”, particularly because she saw the man near her work almost every day.
“I was a mess for a couple of days after. I didn’t leave the house because I’m local to the area, I didn’t want to have to potentially run into him,” she said.
Police arrested a 38-year-old man of no fixed place of abode the following day.
He has since been charged with recklessly causing injury and is due to appear in court this week.
