An alleged drunk driver has been arrested and charged after leading police on multiple chases through Sydney streets last night, at one point even slamming into a police car.
Officers were alerted around 6:20pm after the Lexus SUV, travelling on the Hume Highway at Lansvale, in the city’s south west, allegedly crashed into several vehicles and failed to stop.
Attending crew were stopped at an intersection when the SUV allegedly crashed into the front of the fully-marked police vehicle and continued driving.
No officers were injured, police say, but the wagon was damaged.
Two separate pursuits started shortly after, however they were stopped due to safety concerns.
About 25-minutes later the alleged driver, a 54-year-old man, was arrested after the SUV was found on Coleraine Street.
“Two large hunting knives and ammunition were found during a search of the vehicle,” police say.
The man was taken to a local police station and breath tested, which returned an alleged reading of 0.153.
He was charged with eight offences, refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Bail Court today.
