A man has been charged with the murder of a woman following an alleged violent stabbing in Sydney’s south on Easter Sunday.
NSW Police were called to an apartment block on Church Avenue in Mascot at about 6:10pm after reports of a domestic violence incident.
Upon arrival they found a woman with multiple stab wounds, heavily bleeding.
Paramedics rushed to treat her lacerations, but she could not be saved and died at the scene.
She is believed to be aged 59 but is yet to be formally identified.
Officers arrested a 61-year-old man at the scene and took him back to the Mascot police station, where he was charged with murder.
He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Monday.
A crime scene was established around the apartment block and specialist forensic police commenced an investigation into the incident.
Shocked neighbours gathered outside as police combed the area.
One resident said “it’s a bit scary” and that she felt “so bad” for the family of the victim.
