The tweet, which was taken down after several hours, was “defamatory and homophobic”, Greenwich said in a statement this morning.
The independent MP said he would begin defamation proceedings against Latham unless he received an apology and “amends”.

In his statement, Greenwich also confirmed he had lodged a vilification complaint with the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, and made a complaint to police.
“Enough is enough,” Greenwich said.
“I’ve been openly gay in public life for 15 years and in NSW Parliament for over 10 years, and never have I experienced such a homophobic, sexualised attack that exposed me to contempt, ridicule and extreme abuse, based on my sexuality.”

Greenwich has also asked his lawyers to speak with Twitter “with respect to its provision of a platform that freely allows extreme homophobia, transphobia, racism and religious bigotry”.
“It’s 2023 and LGBTQIA+ Australians shouldn’t have to put up with abuse that targets our sexuality, character, or ability to do our jobs,” Greenwich said.
