Beloved Australian climber Jason Kennison has died after successfully summiting Mount Everest. Kennison, who survived a car crash that left him with a spinal cord injury and was told he might never walk again, trained extensively for his climb and hoped to raise awareness and funds for Spinal Cord Injuries Australia. His family released a statement describing him as an “achiever of goals” who lived a full life. Kennison’s death marks the 10th on the world’s tallest peak this season. He encountered difficulties while above 8000 metres on Everest, known among climbers as the death zone. Two Sherpa guides noticed he was behaving abnormally and he was helped to an area known as the Balcony, around 450 metres lower than the summit.
